Is This the Best Salesman in the World?

The image portrays Savash, a charismatic Turkish man— master of several languages — instantly a friend to every person he meets. I do not know his job title at the hotel. In other contexts he would be called a rainmaker, a troubleshooting outside man, leading clients toward the restaurant or pushing the lodgings, helping to make sales for the business. He worked the docks along the Aegean coast where passengers disembark luxury ships — meeting and greeting them, offering to arrange tours for them. Here he sits on a spring afternoon in the garden where hotel guests and assorted travelers gather to dine, but mostly to make conversation, a skill Savash practices effortlessly.
