Searching For Shadows

It is an adventure to explore Shadow entries in a complete lexicon. You turn away frazzled after an hour’s study, weighed down by the sensation you know less than when you began.

Shadow’s most cogent definition seems to be: the dark figure cast upon a surface by a body intercepting the rays from a source of light.

We could stop here; however the nuances roll on.

An imperfect and faint representation.

This has Platonic flavor, treating shadows as insubstantial depictions of Reality (The Realm of Eternal Forms).

Shadows may stand in for pervasive and dominant influences.

Below dark stripes seem to pervade — eclipsing even the sunlit trees (our solid intercepting bodies).

Shadows contain the mystery.

Shadows make the contrasts possible.

Antithesis is the lively essence of our photographs.
