I took this picture in Western Carolina at a saloon packed with intoxicated customers. I did not expect one of these wholesome college girls with excellent dental hygiene would give me the finger as I operated my camera. It was such a crowded scene full of rowdiness I did not notice the obscenity until the next day when I reviewed my photographs. Our subject’s two girlfriends appear mentally balanced in a manner of speaking, provided you look past the puffiness and mild befuddlement on their faces. By contrast our young lady center-frame has abandoned etiquette utterly. What got into her, other than the alcohol? Did I remind her of a father she did not like and toward whom she is holding a grudge? She seems mischievous though— bratty but not mean — almost funny; perhaps the the finger and the flirty eyes represent a sexual encouragement. I heard later she was embarrassed by her behavior. In the reports I received, I believe the word humiliated, as well as the phrase out-of-control, were used.
