Homage For Robert Johnson
“I got ramblin’
I got ramblin’ on my mind
I got ramblin’
I got ramblin’ all on my mind
Hate to leave you baby
But you treats me so unkind”
Lyric by Robert Johnson
Ask a painter, musician, writer — anyone practicing a difficult art to confide their heroes; they usually will not hesitate. Their mentors form part of themselves and therefore come immediately to mind. This guitarist places a tribute to his ancestor out-front in a famous photograph of Robert Johnson — Mississippi Blues player, originator, composer and mythical personality. I made the image on a sidewalk in front of a music store in Clarksdale, Mississippi. The musician performed for people passing by on the street. On occasion a dozen people would pause and listen to him run through familiar blues configurations.
