Anomalies, Page 2
I encountered Larry (a rather tall humanoid) on Main Street downtown Lexington, Kentucky one sunny afternoon in winter. It was not feasible for me to interrogate him, as he was moving in a crowd of equally tall strange people, so we are left with many mysteries surrounding our efforts to decode this photograph.
Larry’s headgear forms an artificial neck extending stiffly all the way down inside his jumpsuit; the elastic cuff of one long sleeve tightly secures a cheap garden glove on his left hand. His costume with its incongruities causes us to wonder and worry — why must Larry protect every inch of his skin like that?
Worried about radiation fallout, chemical warfare, biological agents?
All those embedded patches with their vague symbols — what does it all mean?
His face has only one raggedy eyebrow, and a possibly cancerous growth on one side of his nose. This elevates our concern and curiosity.
The wearing of a fake flower above his heart must have some significance for Larry, however we seem hopeless — left in twilight darkness — about that too.
Despite his frozen countenance our subject seems happy and friendly enough, greeting us with an open and relaxed hand,
And fortunately not a clenched fist.
Could Larry be hiding under his helmet a sardonic smile expressing a mocking sense of humor? This might explain that goofy plastic hat (which looks more like a dog’s water bowl than anything else) secured atop his head by a knotted piece of string.
I conclude Larry has set out deliberately to confuse us. I believe under his kludge-like costume he secretly chuckles at our expense, having caused us to spend time frivolously attempting to make sense out of his dissonant nonsense.
